When Minke's "Gold Angel" first floated by in 2017 it seemed like downtempo pop had a strong new contender. Dreamy vocals, vivid atmospherics, moody hooks - the cumulative effect was enchanting. The UK singer has fulfilled on that early promise. Videos made in the Mojave Desert and the New York subway system, tracks that have amplified that initial "Gold Angel" aura, the 26-year-old is experimenting with sound, and being recognized more and more. This year's 'The Tearoom' is one of those EPs that creates its own little world. We had Minke in to play its "Rest" and "Something Better" in our studio, and she brought a subtle drama front and center.
