Integrity should be 'above factional politics'

The prime minister’s representative on the NSW State Liberal Executive has reportedly blocked anti-corruption measures to ban property developers from becoming local councilors, which Liberal MP Jason Fallinski says is “impossible to believe”.

The Sunday Telegraph reported Alex Hawke engaged in hours of heated debate over the issue on Friday and attempted to block the measures aimed to increase the integrity of the liberal pre-selection process.

Mr Fallinski told Sky News host Sharri Markson it was impossible to believe the party’s state executive would not “have waived this through as a fait accompli,” dismissing suggestions the move was a factional decision.

“Integrity is above factional politics,” he said.

“We’ve seen in the Labor Party what happens when you put factional politics above integrity”.
