Sometimes you plug in a piece of old gear and think, “Why the hell did I ever buy this?”

And then, every now and again, you plug something in and realise you actually had it right all along.

This is my old Fender Twin Amp. Got to get that right for the Fender crowd. I bought it years ago and it was my Young Runaways amp back in 2011. I haven't used it in years, but when I switched it on again recently I was reminded just how bloody great it sounds.

It's a bit like finding an old photograph of yourself. You might look at it and think, “yikes, look at me,” but then you remember exactly who you were and what that time felt like.

Young Runaways are getting back together, so in this video I tell you the story of how that's come about, take you along to band practice and share some footage from the rehearsal.

And then I dig out the old Fender Twin and find myself wondering why I've spent so many years buying amps when perhaps I already had the answer sitting in front of me.

Sometimes it's staring you right in the face.
