Huge Trains! Really Long Passenger Trains - Australian Trains

English - The golden age long distance passenger trains & really long passenger car consists is over in Australia. Cheap airfares have enabled people to fly at low cost between major cities in Australia a lot quicker and in many cases, cheaper than rail. Previous to cheap airfares, many people chose to travel by rail. It was still cost competitive and comfortable.

There were many trains - The Trans Australia, Spirit of Progress, The Southern Aurora, Brisbane Limited, The Ghan, The Indian Pacific and The Overland were just some of the trains associated with train travel. Many of these trains ran on a daily basis and the car consist was very long. Some up to 20 cars in the train.

These days, the last of the famous trains that survive, have adjusted to a new market. Gone is the primary aim of transporting people from one place to another. Now it's tourism and people who want a unique experience who ride these trains.
