Poverty, non-disclosure of status and alcohol abuse are among the reasons why HIV/AIDS patients default on their treatment. This is according to Kimberley-based non-governmental organisation Masiphile, which focuses on health promotion and prevention. In the Northern Cape alone, at least 9% of people living with HIV are defaulting on their anti-retroviral treatment.
