Nestled deep in the Caucasus Mountains of Georgia, Ushguli is often described as the highest permanently inhabited village in Europe. Surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery and overlooked by Shkhara, Georgia’s highest peak, the village feels like a place untouched by time.

As I walk through the narrow streets of Ushguli, I explore its medieval stone towers, learn about the village’s remarkable history, and discover why this isolated community has survived in one of the harshest environments in the Caucasus for centuries.

I also share the story of the famous movie connected to Ushguli, a film that helped introduce this unique corner of Georgia to audiences around the world.

More than anything, this video is about experiencing a place unlike anywhere else I have ever visited. The combination of ancient traditions, spectacular mountain landscapes, and extreme isolation makes Ushguli one of the most memorable destinations I have encountered during my travels.
