The Apparells - Anti Social Club (live)

Here’s footage of The Apparells performing their excellent, psychedelic, driving tune “Anti Social Club” at Glasgow’s famous Nice N Sleazy on Friday 21st October 2016.

The band had already been together for a few years and had found success in Glasgow and beyond before I joined in late 2015 or early 2016.

The band was recommended to me while I was “between bands,” following the unexpected end of The Omega Four a few years earlier. I was impressed by their potential—and, more importantly, their drive, which had been missing from both The Omega Four and Modus before them. I got in touch and suggested a collaboration. It worked out well: 2016 became a strong year of intense gigging and recording, leading to the Soul Credits E.P. and a short American tour.

Sadly, differences between two band members led to our split. Four of the five of us went on to play together for a few more years as The Charlatunes, until the COVID lockdown brought that to an end. The Apparells reunited in the early ’20s, but by then I was fully committed to The Small Fakers and wasn’t involved. There are still unfinished songs we recorded but never mixed, sitting in my studio—so maybe one day we’ll get together and finish them. They had some great songs.

The Apparells’ drummer, Jason, has done a marvellous job rebuilding the band’s Facebook page after it was stolen by an Asian clothes retailer and Facebook refused to return it to us. There are plenty of photos and memories there if you fancy a wee squintie: https://www.facebook.com/theapparellsuk
