The 2024 Study That May Finally Explain How the Pyramids Were Built

Nobody knows for certain how the ancient Egyptians built the pyramids, and that uncertainty has produced some of the wildest theories in human history.

People have proposed aliens, survivors of Atlantis, sound waves that levitated stone, and a lost super-civilization predating Egypt by 13,000 years, but in 2024, researchers published a peer-reviewed theory that might finally explain it.

Tomb art from the 19th century already showed workers pouring water onto sand in front of sleds carrying 2.5-ton stone blocks. Wet sand reduces friction enough for teams of people to move it with human strength alone.

The 2024 study went further, suggesting water was channelled into shafts inside the pyramid itself, acting as a hydraulic lift to raise the stones upward. Scientists also discovered a long-lost branch of the Nile running alongside 31 pyramids, likely used to transport stones directly to the site.

The pyramids were built 4,500 years ago, and we still don't fully know how.
