Pip Blom: The Road (documentary)

Playing at Glastonbury, touring the VS, releasing a debut record at a British recordlabel: the Amsterdam-based indierockmusician Pip Blom got her big break in 2019. VPRO 3voor12 presents the online documentary 'Pip Blom: The Road', in which filmmakers Kilian Kayser and Timo Pisart have followed her along for half a year as she prepares herself for her biggest show yet.

A documentary about a girl who turns her biggest dreams to reality (a dream she envisioned on a blog called 'The Road', typed up by a sixteen-year-old Pip who dreamed of playing at Glastonbury), the Road follows Pip as she works hard and continues to remain true to her own self. Sure, breaking through is a dream come true, but it's mostly a matter of working hard, sleeping very little and dealing with the boredom of spending hours upon hours in a bandbus. The Road also shows to what extent Pip Blom as a band is a product of a hardworking family, with little brother Tender playing the guitar and parents Leonieke and Erwin as the ever-present parents, always trying to keep up with the band and trying to stay sane in a livingroom full of flightcases.

Anyone who's been signed to a big recordlabel will have to make compromises. And to what extent is Pip Blom prepared to do so? And what about Glastonbury? What if it's not all that Pip has made it out to be? Pip Blom: The Road isn't a stereotypical rock 'n roll documentary, but an honest portrait of a talented and extremely ambitious Dutch musician.
