Learning from the Failure of Peter

Scripture:
John 18:25-27
I Corinthians 10:12
Luke 22:61

Notes:
What possessed Peter to deny knowing Jesus?
1) Peter was scared and tired
2) Peter never expected to be questioned by a servant girl

Seven Great Mistakes Peter Made:
1) He talked when he should have listened
2) He didn’t appreciate his own weakness
3) He ignored Jesus’ warning
4) He followed at a distance
5) He warmed himself at the wrong fire
6) He was unprepared when the attack came
7) He compounded his sin by first deceiving, then denying, and finally swearing

There were 4 steps in Peter’s return to the Lord:
1) The Rooster’s Crow
2) The Look of Jesus
3) The Words of Jesus
4) Peter’s Tears

Three Things We Can Learn from Peter’s Failure:
1) Satan often attacks us at the point of our strength rather than the point of our weakness
2) God allows us to fail in order to strip away our self-boasting (to teach us humility)
3) God can redeem your mistakes if you will let Him

That’s what happened to Peter:
• Peter’s Guilt was turned into Grace
• Peter’s Shame was turned into Sympathy
• Peter’s Failure was turned into Faithfulness.
