Look Down When You Visit Giza. You Are Standing on 200 Ton Foundation Tiles Laid Before the First St
Leírás
The 25 year timeline assigned to the construction of the Great Pyramid does not begin at the beginning. Before a single course of stone was laid, years of surveying, planning, and design work had already been completed. The bedrock itself had to be leveled - not entirely, as a primordial mound was deliberately left at the center, a detail that connects Giza to a broader pattern found at significant ancient sites around the world. And beneath the pyramid, before the first stone of the structure proper was placed, foundation tiles were laid - some of them weighing between 200 and 250 tons each.
Most visitors to Giza walk up to the pyramid and look at the stone courses rising above them. Ben van Kerkwyk's suggestion is to look down instead. The ground underfoot at the base of the Great Pyramid is not simply ground - it is a constructed foundation of enormous precision and scale that predates the construction of the pyramid itself. All of that foundation work took years. The surveying took years. The planning and design of what is still one of the most precisely aligned structures on the planet took years. None of that is included in the 25 year figure that gets cited as the construction timeline - and when it is added back in, the already strained mathematics of how the pyramid was built becomes considerably more difficult to defend.
