Like a swig of Irish whiskey, Kevin Smith’s music goes down smooth but hits with a bit of bite. Under the moniker Kojaque (pronounced ko-jak), Smith has been dropping jazz-sample-infused raps for years. A big fan of MF DOOM, the Dubliner combines woozy beats with self-deprecating lines that conjure similarities to the masked madvillain. Smith’s a filmmaker too - with a YouTube channel chock full of highly stylized vids that consistently rack up tens of thousands of views. These days, the 20-something helps run Soft Boy Records, a DIY label shining a spotlight on some of the most interesting music in Ireland.
