Is video call safe for kids?

As a doctor we recommended no screen time before 2 years age.

But there is an exception for video call.

Why is video call different than regular screen time?

1.) Video call is 2 way communication whereas regular tv or smartphone is one way communication.

This 2 way communication doesn't harm child's brain.

2.) For the baby to know his family staying far like grandparents this is the only way. Otherwise baby may not even identify faces.

So video call is safe as long as you follow these 5 rules.

1.) Safe distance from screen.

Keep the screen atleast 30 cm/ 12 inches from baby's eyes.

2.) Timing.

Don't disturb the baby just before sleep or just after waking up.

Time it after meals when the child is active and playful.

3.) Time.

Each video call should last 5 to 7 minutes and maximum 10 minutes per day to avoid strain.

4.) Co-viewing

Don't leave the phone to the kid.

You should join the child in the call and explain what's happening in the screen .

5.) Interaction.

Call should be interactive. Play with the kid, ask questions and wait for answers.
