I Won’t Be Attending the Funeral.

My sister nor I, or anybody from our family, attended my brother and sister-in-law’s wedding, ( I was 12 I think, I don’t even know that we were invited), the birth of their children, high school and college graduations, birthdays, anniversaries, nothing. My sister and I wish we could’ve been a part of his family but he moved a thousand miles away, decades before there were things like free long distance calls and Internet, things like that we use now to keep in touch with people. After he was married and had a ready-made family and then had his own kids he never wrote to me or sent cards or anything like that. I know he had his own life and his hands were full, marrying and within 2 years having 5 children. His wife and I exchanged letters for a while. We just weren’t a part of each other’s lives, And it would be the wrong thing to do to suddenly show up as his grieving sisters after never being heard of before. I don’t want to go see his body in his casket, I don’t want that to be the memory of him stuck in my head. My sister and I don’t like funerals and neither of us will be having one when we pass from this life.
