I understand the point they are trying to make.

Consequences matter.

Boundaries matter.

Guidance from a father absolutely matters.

But the idea that terror is the healthiest foundation for that relationship deserves a deeper look.

When a child is terrified of a parent, they often become very skilled at managing that parent’s reactions rather than developing their own internal compass. They learn how to avoid punishment. They learn how to hide mistakes. They learn how to keep parts of themselves concealed.

That dynamic may produce obedience in the moment, but it rarely produces maturity.

Respect functions very differently.

When a father lives with integrity, holds clear boundaries, and shows up consistently, children begin to revere that presence. They do not act with care because they are scared of being hurt. They act with care because the relationship itself carries weight.

In the video I also shared something personal.

I grew up with a father I was genuinely afraid of.

That fear did not bring me closer to him.

It created distance.

It created silence.

It created a dynamic where honesty did not feel safe.

What ultimately shapes a young man is not terror of his father. What shapes him is being guided into manhood by someone he respects deeply enough to listen to.

That difference matters far more than fear ever will.
