Margaret Island, located in the heart of Budapest, has evolved from a medieval site into a cherished public sanctuary. Originally known as the "Island of Rabbits," the land gained its current name after King Béla IV placed his daughter, Princess Margaret, in a Dominican convent there following the 13th-century Mongol invasion. Although the island experienced a period of neglect over subsequent centuries, it was transformed into a landscaped public park during the 19th century.
