Hidden behind the Temple of Seti I lies one of Egypt’s most enigmatic structures, The Osireion.

The Osireion. At first glance, it looks unlike almost anything else in ancient Egypt. Massive granite blocks, some weighing dozens of tonnes, form a sunken chamber surrounded by a water-filled moat, giving it an appearance more reminiscent of megalithic architecture than traditional Egyptian temples.

Mainstream archaeologists believe the Osireion was built during the reign of Pharaoh Seti I around 3,200 years ago as a symbolic tomb dedicated to the god Osiris, the ruler of the underworld. Inscriptions found on the site support this connection.
