On January 3, 2013, a thrilling zorb ride in the Caucasus Mountains of southern Russia turned fatal when the inflatable ball veered off course. 27-year-old Denis Burakov and 33-year-old Vladimir Shcherbakov were inside when the ball bounced past handlers and sailed over a rocky precipice. The zorb plummeted nearly 1.5 kilometers down a gorge before landing on a frozen lake. Burakov d*ed from spinal injuries on the way to the hospital, while Vladimir Shcherbakov miraculously survived with a concussion and multiple injuries.
