Domestic Violence PSA

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. We want to help you spot the warning signs of domestic violence.

Ask yourself honestly: is my partner controlling?
Does he or she check my phone, emails, and social media without permission?

Does your partner decide what you wear, eat, or how you spend money?

Does he or she try to keep you from family and friends?

Has that person hurt you physically or threatened violence against you, your children, loved ones or pets?

If the answer to these questions is yes, you could be in an abusive relationship.

Domestic abuse can happen to anyone, and it usually builds up – little by little – until you’re in a very dangerous situation. Please, don’t stay silent.

Get help. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to putting a stop to family violence and sexual assault. But it starts with you speaking up.
