FSDB Kicks Off Distance Learning April 6

Dear FSDB Parents/Legal Guardians,

​We are all experiencing extraordinary circumstances that are influencing our lives in big and small ways and the impact on the FSDB community has been unprecedented. We’ve been and will continue to be responsive to the needs of our students, families and staff members.

As we’ve been sharing with you over the past several weeks via our Monitoring COVID-19 webpage, we’ve implemented numerous changes to ensure the health and safety of our campus community while ensuring our students can continue their education. Please continue to check the FSDB website and social media to stay current on school updates, including frequently asked questions (FAQs).

Our commitment to our students’ success is unwavering, and we will do everything we can to support you and your children regardless of the unique challenges we all are facing.

As the first week of distance learning is almost upon us, I want to again reiterate our new and enhanced efforts to provide academic continuity, student health and well-being, digital assistance and parental support, as outlined below. We are excited to share resources to support you and your family as you and your child transition into a distance learning environment.

Academic Continuity
​Thanks to our dedicated teachers and specialists, we’re transitioning to a fully virtual setting for your child starting on Monday, April 6. While the FSDB campus is closed, our educators will be engaging with students to implement their individualized distance learning plans.

If you haven’t done so already, please take a few moments to review the FSDB Distance Learning webpage, which includes our Instructional Continuity Plan, enrichment activities, and digital resources; additional information will be uploaded during the month of April.

By now, you have been notified about the shipment of your child’s educational materials and/or devices; the majority of these deliveries are being made today. If you have questions or concerns about your delivery or the contents, please contact your school’s administrative assistant.

Student Health and Well-Being
Our teachers and related service providers will continue partnering with you to provide specially designed instruction and related services as identified on your child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) through distance learning to the greatest extent possible. Progress on all areas of your child’s IEP will be monitored and considered, as always.

Digital Assistance
FSDB has taken steps to ensure that any student who needs a mobile device(s) to access instructional resources have been or soon will be provided with the appropriate tools for the duration of our distance learning program. Information for internet assistance programs from the major telecommunications providers have been shared via our website FAQs.

Parental Support
Our Parent Services Department is offering extensive opportunities for parents/legal guardians via virtual classes and workshops to learn, increase knowledge of techniques and promote student achievement. Parent resources and support for transitioning to distance learning will soon be added to the FSDB Distance Learning webpage—we encourage you to explore and engage in these opportunities to help improve your child’s academic achievement.

We are aware that there may be challenges to face by our students and our families through this time of distance learning. Please remember we are here to learn from each other and work collaboratively. Please contact your child’s teacher if you experience any struggle or difficulty in completing any activity or assignment. Have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to the start of this new journey. If we work together, our students will do more, be more, achieve more.
