Bastille - Laura Palmer (Music Video Review)

Our new show works in a couple different ways. Sometimes, Music Video Review will present fervent fans offering commentary on a recent vid - basically putting a camera on the comments section. Other episodes will feature artists themselves looking back on their past work, providing details about how a particular shoot went down or what kind of impact the video had on their career. We hope you enjoy the reviews. We’re kicking off the series with some candid observations from Dan Smith of Bastille and director Austin Peters. They hit our Times Square studio to take us through a few of the band’s key vids.

"I do all my stunts, I guess you could say," Smith jokes when discussing his own kidnapping in Bastille's video for "Laura Palmer." With Peters back in the saddle again, the band set out to the desert to film a video for Smith’s “power pop love-letter" to the doomed teenager from David Lynch's cult-classic Twin Peaks. Behind the scenes tidbits includes a reminder that the masks the kids wear led to merch and artwork that would define the band's aesthetic for years. "That became, for me, the iconic moment," Smith reminisces.
