Description
Victorian Hukin & Heath S/P Rolltop Breakfast Warmer Dish Bacon Server possible Christopher Dresser designFor your consideration is this "bark effect" Hukin & Heath Victorian silver plate roll top bacon server / breakfast warming dish. It was made for the retailer Finnigans of Manchester, Ltd. Inside is a fancy pierced drip insert which sits inside another solid removable dish. It has thumb wheels holding the assembly together and the threaded sleeves come apart in two halves for mounting.
Ideal for serving not only bacon, but as the interior liners come out, soups, stews, or anything you choose can be served, as silver plate retains heat very well. It has their silverplate hallmark: H & H with their Eagle mark. Both inserts seem to have “M/B7” hand etched on their undersides. I have no idea what that refers to unless it was an owner marking their silver. I have seen other H&H "bark effect" pieces online - though not this warmer - attributed to Christopher Dresser. But I can't say for sure that this is one of his designs. For someone looking for something a bit less ornate but still sophisticated, this would certainly fit the bill.
This measures approx 14-1/2” across handle to handle x 10” long inner edge to inner edge x 8.5” high to top of dome lid. 4 3/8" high to bowl edge. 9" wide front to back. Bowl approx. 4" deep. It weighs approx. 5 lbs alone
It is in very nice original condition with no monograms, dents, dings or loss to plating to the exterior body. You may wish to polish the exterior or leave as is. The interior and 2 removable dishes are very bright and shiny though the interior bowl does have a few spots of tarnish. The perforated insert does have a small uneven bend on it's edge but it’s not particularly serious or detracting.
This piece is much earlier than items I normally sell, but it was too cool to pass up. Please email with any questions which I will try to answer but keep in mind I'm far from an expert.
This will weigh 6 lbs packed safely. Local pick up in Boston welcome!
