Description

STERLING LONDON SUGAR SHAKER  MUFFINEER 19TH CENTURY
Exceptionally  fine antique English sterling silver sugar shake Makers William Gibson and John Langman, London.
Standing 8 inches high on a round 2 2/3 inch base, all repousse with hand chased flowers and scrolls that completely cover the body and top. The front has an engraved griffon in a cartouch.  Clearly marked on both the top and bottom WG JL LION-UNCROWNED LEOPARDS HEAD-LETTER b FOR 1897-1898.  Base marked Goldsmiths & Silversmiths, 112 regent St London. there is a bit of an over strike on the written mark on the base.  Initials for William Gibson and John Langman.
No damage to the top or body and it is in pristine condition with no signs of overpolishing as the design is crisp and clear. Although it stands straight it has been depressed slightly downward into the base causing a small wrinkle. Probably created by setting it down hard on a flat surface.  You can see it in the photo of the underside of the base. This is a simple repair for a silversmith as it can be raised but I am selling it AS IS. It has a substantial weight of 8.48 ounces troy. The inside is perfectly clean and there is a bit of tarnish on the inside on some of the holes. This is a vary elegant piece of silver.
Please feel free to ask questions about the damage on the base if it is not clear from my photographs.
