Description
Sheaffer Snorkel Repair Kit with PVC SacsSnorkel-fillers have three rubber parts that eventually need replacement -- the ink sac; the point seal; and the barrel seal. Although many Snorkels are found (and sold!) in "working" condition, rubber parts that are now 50+ years old are going to be on the verge of failure, even if they seem to be working fine. A leaking point seal will allow liquid into the pen body, leading to corrosion of the inner mechanism. A leaky barrel seal will prevent proper filling, and a bad sac can cause all sorts of problems. This kit can be used to repair all standard-sized Sheaffer Snorkel models (Admiral, Valiant, Statesman, Clipper, Sovereign, Crest, Signature, Masterpiece, etc). The oversized PFM, with inlaid nib and squared-off ends, requires a different kit (see our other listings).
This kit includes three PVC sacs, which can easily outlast several conventional latex rubber sacs. This is the same material used by Parker for their "Pli-Glass" 51 sacs, most of which are still serviceable after over 60 years of use! Note that PVC sacs are not as flexible as latex or silicone sacs, so will require the plunger to be depressed more rapidly and deliberately to fill completely.
Our O-rings and point seals are also brand new. Though they look like ordinary rubber, they are made of ethylene propylene -- a synthetic compound nearly impervious to ozone, which is the prime cause of the hardening seen in old rubber pen seals. These seals should last at least twice as long as their regular rubber equivalents (just be sure to keep them away from petroleum-based oils and greases), and possibly much longer yet.
NOTE: PVC sacs can also be used in hard rubber pens, but they are not recommended for use in pens made of celluloid or other softer plastics where the sac is in direct contact with the material of the barrel (they are fine if inside a metal sac housing, as is the case with Snorkels and Touchdowns). For more information on sac material choice, please see the Pen Sac Primer on our website.

Payment
We are glad to combine shipping charges on multiple purchases, but it is vital that the proper checkout method be used. When buying more than one item, use the Add to Cart button -- NOT the Buy It Now button. View your cart when you are ready to complete the purchase, and if the total shipping charge is incorrect, do NOT pay. Instead, click the Request Total link at the top right and we will send you a corrected invoice.
Terms of Sale
We strongly believe in full and explicit description of any condition problems or flaws, and in very conservative grading. We stand behind our descriptions -- buy with confidence.
