Description
Presented is an old, Scottish sterling silver sauce or gravy ladle made by John Zeigler of Edinburgh in 1811. The handle is in a classic Fiddle Thread form, with a nice shell accent at the tip. The whole piece is done in a very traditional form for its age. The back of the handle has a very small monogram of the initials AM next to the hallmarks. The ladle is a good weight for its size. The back is marked with the three tower mark for Edinburgh, the thistle mark for sterling silver, a date letter f for the year 1811 and a maker’s mark for John Zeigler.
This piece is in great overall condition. There is wear commensurate with age and use. There might have been a monogram removal to the front, but it is very difficult to be certain. There are no dents, no breaks, no splits, and no repairs.
The ladle measures 7 inches long and weighs 62 grams or 2.2 ounces.
